SELENE & HECATE Earrings

The myth of the two faces of the moon is a recurring theme in various cultures throughout history. Many ancient civilizations viewed the moon as a dual entity, representing both light and darkness, creation and destruction, or life and death. In Greek mythology, the moon goddess Selene and the dark goddess Hecate symbolize the moon's dual nature, with Selene representing the bright, visible side and Hecate embodying the mysterious, unseen dark side.Similarly, in some Native American legends, the moon is seen as having a "bright" and a "shadow" side, reflecting the balance of good and evil. In Aztec mythology, the moon was associated with the god Tecciztecatl, who represented the duality of cowardice and bravery. In the Muisca culture of Colombia, the moon, personified by the goddess Chía, played a crucial role in their spiritual and daily lives. Chía was revered as a powerful deity linked to fertility, protection, and the cycles of nature, embodying feminine energy and nurturing aspects of life.   These myths illustrate the human fascination with the moon's contrasting sides, symbolizing the inherent balance and duality of nature and existence.  In our earrings two amazing carved emeralds -totalizing over 53 cts in weight and coming from the ancient mine of Muzo dated back to over 65 million of years - are facing, in a mirror-like symmetry, two black moon in sand brushed titanium . The figures are framed by a rim of champagne diamonds set upside down to enhance the feeling of danger and beware while the center features a nice pave’ which reassemble to a champagne flute glass and set with sparking white diamonds. The whole Jewel is set in the earthy and reassuring tone of rose gold  . The dangling faces of the moon are suspended over a series of fancy cut diamonds in hexagonal step cut shapes and terminating , on the earlobe, by an exploded star of white diamonds in kite and hexagonal shapes . Behind the black moon faces we can discover a galaxy of stars, comets and  planets, engraved in a plate of rose gold and matching with the ear butterfly which holds a beautiful and encouraging message for the wearer : you are a star !
