Description
As artist describes this piece: “Thryptomene is a flower from Australia and I planted in my garden, I was fascinated by its tiny size, shiny color and elegant shape. Originally I made this brooch for myself to wear on ocations with formal clothes, I wanted to have something that's not too fancy but a bit shine from every angle, pure in color, and the size suitable to see from distance but not too much as getting close”. The design is not a copy from the blossoming thryptomene, it’s the capturing of the moment when it's nearly weathered. Richard Wu says: “As Wabi-Sabi is my philosophy of how I see life. (remember this quote: "when the last leaf is about to fall off from the tree in Autumn, and just at that very moment, it's wabi-sabi”). I try to catch that split second because that moment of life and death is precious. Just like our life is just a sudden short time of our forever death. This shining second is so fascinating and worth memorizing forever”.
Richard Wu founded the “Liu Guangjia” Oriental jewelry brand in 2005. He established a jade carving studio in Suzhou in 2012, learning the intricacies of the craft along the way.
