Artworks with rare and unique gemstones by Alexander Laut

Eurus Gallery is proud to present first solo exhibition of prominent jewellery artist Alexander Laut.

Alexander is a favourite jeweller of leading auction houses. His signed works are successfully sold at Sotheby's, Bonhams and Christie's. His art is based on working with rare and unique gemstones. They are the subject centre and source of inspiration for most of his works. But rare and unique does not mean perfect. On the contrary, Laut dislikes colorless diamonds for their impersonality and standardisation. He prefers gemstones with character. Rare rubies, sapphires, spinel, emeralds, Paraiba tourmalines, baroque pearls…

Laut’s work is also distinguished by his bold color combinations — call it “matching the mismatched.” In his jewelry, pink is paired successfully with blue, and a deep green goes well with lemon yellow. Alexander only uses colorless diamonds as accents, not because he doesn’t care for them, but simply because he loves color too much. “It’s interesting that I’m often called a Russian jeweler, and even compared to Fabergé. Meanwhile, my Russian clients don’t see anything of the sort, but my other clients throughout the world sense some elusive Russian quality in my work. They bring up the way I view color, characteristic of Russian art, and my bold combination of bright shades,” Laut says.

Laut has a colourful, very American style. And this is not surprising: the designer, who now lives in Portugal and previously lived in Bangkok for a long time, started his career in the USA. And before founding his own brand, he worked on special orders for Harry Winston. The design is American in its boldness, work with volume, brightness. At the same time, from the majority of American jewellers, Laut's work is distinguished by incredible elegance, attention to detail, and perfection of finishing. This is due to the fact that all Alexander's jewellery is created by Japanese masters in ateliers in Osaka and Bangkok.

The Stone Age will showcase different facets of the artist's talent and allow you to explore his work in its entirety. It is also a unique chance to meet the author himself, who will be present at the exhibition.
