Sapphires in general are Laut’s favorite stones. “I’ll never get tired of sapphires; they’re the stones for me,” says the jeweler. Rubies are another favorite of Alexander’s. The first Alexander Laut haute joaillerie creation was made with those stones. “When I moved to Bangkok, I bought a set of Burmese rubies,” Alexander recalls. “The sautoir I made with them is now worth five times its initial price. That was the first serious piece I made with my Japanese collaborator and the first serious item sold under my
trademark.”
