Paper Cutting is a Chinese folk art of a long history.
The art of cutting paper, prepared wholly by skillful manipulation of scissors, can easily be found in Chinese décor, especially during festive times like Chinese New Year. These cutouts are not only served as ornaments, but are also used as embroidery patt erns. Some are exclusively cut for the embroidery of one specific piece of costume, and some are overlapped and cut through at once for different pieces of clothing and accessories that having the same pattern. Among the objects presented are mostly flowe rs, Chinese characters and all kinds of traditional graphics which carry auspicious meanings.
YEWN ’ s Paper Cut Collection is a new interpretation of the traditional art form with modern jewellery design. Inspired by the paper cut graphics, YEWN ’ s Creativ e Director Dickson Yewn imagines the real objects that the cutouts represents, such as peony, chrysanthemum, tendril and butterfly. With the use of diamonds and 18 karat white gold, YEWN creates pieces of wearable dazzling silhouettes, while the sophistica ted details and distinctive shapes of the cutouts are well preserved.
