The Hexagon Box Pendant by Richard Wu is a captivating piece, crafted to house all twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac within its elegant design. In Chinese tradition, each year of birth is symbolised by an animal, believed to create a mystical connection between the person and their zodiac creature. Carrying such a symbol is thought to bring good luck and protection, a deeply held belief in Chinese culture.
This pendant was originally designed for a mother whose daughter was preparing to study overseas, intended as a keepsake that carries memories, good fortune, and a sense of protection. Richard Wu’s approach was to create a pendant both practical for daily wear and beautiful as an art piece, with the zodiac figures safely enclosed and protected from damage.
The hexagonal box itself is simple yet elegant, and clients have the option to personalise the design with different enamel colours, intricatepatterns, or even diamonds. A refined internal mechanism allows the pendant to open smoothly, lifting the selected zodiac animal upon a tiny platform in a graceful motion, creating an enchanting reveal that adds to the pendant's charm and symbolic depth.
Richard Wu founded the “Liu Guangjia” Oriental jewelry brand in 2005. He established a jade carving studio in Suzhou in 2012, learning the intricacies of the craft along the way.
