Trick or Treat:
The Scary Jewellery We Love

Halloween-themed jewellery. What do you imagine? Pumpkins, skulls... Eurus Gallery takes the theme further and creates thematic installations as part of the new exhibition Trick or Treat: The Scary Jewellery We Love.

Act One. Suspense. An artistic effect, a special prolonged disturbing state of the viewer and a set of artistic techniques used to immerse the viewer in this state. Nothing is happening, but the serpent by Dickson Yewn is already lurking in the flowers. And the spider has woven a titanium web (Ilgiz F.).

Epic Jewellery's abstract earrings are in a dramatic color scheme. The red here is a pave of over a thousand rubies, and the black is anodized aluminium.

The domed Ilgiz F ring is full of drama as well. With pave set rubies and a black enameled top dome. The motif is the Greater Burdock - one of Ilgiz's favorites.

Act Two. Mystifications. Epic Jewellery's diamond tag appears to be a simple white piece of jewellery until you put it under UV light and see the secret message written in diamonds on diamonds. The jewellery takes advantage of the natural property of diamonds, to have or not to have fluorescence. And the two extreme gradations of these — zero fluorescence and ultra strong fluorescence. The Ilgiz F. pendant and earrings seem abstract. Roses, grapes... But turn the jewellery upside down and you will see a glass of red wine into which grapes are squeezed. The glass is decorated with roses not by chance, but because roses protect the vineyards. They become an indicator by which it is clear that there might be something wrong with the vine because of parasites or dry soil, for example.

Act three. Night. There is moon and stars in the sky (Epic Jewellery ring with moonstone and titanium), the eagle (Alexander Laut) is out hunting. Dickson Yewn bats are hiding in a cave. They are, by the way, a lucky symbol for the Chinese, WuFu meaning the five blessings, is a concept that signifies a grouping of certain good fortunes and luck in Chinese culture.

There's a pumpkin, too. But in Eurus it is unusual, mechanical - on the dial of Konstantin Chaykin's watch.
