Art in the Heart: Say It with Diamonds

For the second consecutive year, Eurus Gallery presents an exhibition dedicated to Valentine's Day. Last year's theme explored love, sex, and temptation through the eyes of jewellery artists. This year’s exhibition is titled "Art in the Heart: Say It with Diamonds."

The exhibition is divided into several sections. The first focuses on romance and sentimentality in jewellery. If the diamond ring is currently viewed as the primary symbol of engagement and romance, centuries ago, other forms of adornment took precedence: intertwined hands symbolizing unity, or enamel miniatures known as "lover's eyes" — depictions of a beloved's eye. Sentimental pieces from the Victorian era include lockets with concealed images of a loved one, and occasionally... strands of hair from children and sweethearts. In this part contemporary romantic is symbolic jewellery is showcased.

The second section, under the subtitle “Said It with Diamonds,” explores unconventional diamond jewellery. Romantic diamond pieces extend far beyond engagement rings. Moreover, the diamond engagement ring is a relatively recent invention, originating in the mid-20th century. This innovation is credited to De Beers, the company that faced uncertainty regarding what to do with diamonds mined from new sources and launched a highly successful marketing campaign. This campaign positioned the diamond as the primary symbol of engagement and educated consumers on how to choose the perfect diamond. For instance, one popular advertisement suggested that the value of an engagement ring should equal at least one-tenth of the groom's annual income. However, just as swiftly as the diamond ring entered the realm of jewellery and wedding traditions, it can just as easily fade away. In recent years, due to fluctuating diamond prices, many clients, particularly in the East, have turned back to traditional engagement rings featuring sapphires and rubies. A section of the exhibition titled “Ruby and Sapphire” showcases stunning pieces adorned with these timeless gemstones. Another part, “The Colors of Love,” celebrates love in all its diversity, symbolized by the rainbow.

Another section of the exhibition is titled "The Art of Love," which focuses on love as an artistic object. The centerpiece of this section is a collaborative project by Olga Tobreluts and Epic Jewellery, transforming one of the artist's most famous motifs, "The Burning Heart," into a breathtaking necklace crafted from titanium, gold, and diamonds.
